Dr Liubov Borukhson
Specialist care for adults across the full spectrum of rheumatological conditions, with a focus on musculoskeletal ultrasound
Dr Liubov Borukhson is a Consultant Rheumatologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, where she runs her NHS rheumatology clinics, with point-of-care ultrasound integrated into them, at all three of the Trust's rheumatology sites: Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St Mary's. She also sees private patients at the private facilities run by Imperial College Healthcare Private Care, the Trust's private arm, at each of the same three hospitals.
She manages the full spectrum of rheumatological conditions, including inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, osteoporosis and rare autoimmune disorders; the conditions page lists them.
A native Russian and Ukrainian speaker, she consults in English, Russian and Ukrainian.
Education and training
Dr Borukhson qualified in medicine at Donetsk National Medical University in 2007, with first-class honours, and has trained and worked in NHS hospitals since 2010. She completed her core medical training at West Suffolk Hospital and at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, and her specialist training in rheumatology, from 2016 to 2022, at Watford General Hospital, Southend University Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust and University College Hospital. She has been on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register in rheumatology since August 2022.
She holds an MSc in Rheumatology from King's College London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Ultrasonography from the University of East London. Her particular interest is musculoskeletal point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), the basis of her one-stop clinics, where assessment, rapid diagnosis and ultrasound-guided injections can often happen within the same appointment. She also trained in ultrasound of the temporal and axillary arteries for giant cell arteritis at Southend University Hospital, and has a special interest in osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.
She was a locum consultant rheumatologist at Barts Health from 2022 to 2023 and then at Southend University Hospital, and joined Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as a consultant in December 2024.

Private appointments are arranged through the practice; NHS appointments are arranged through your GP via the usual referral route, not through the practice.

Beyond the clinic
Teaching
Dr Borukhson has taught junior doctors, medical students, nurses and other health professionals throughout her training and consultant posts. At Barts Health she ran the weekly rheumatology teaching for medical students from Queen Mary University of London, and she has taught registrars musculoskeletal and vascular ultrasound and prepared trainees for the specialty examination. In 2023 she organised a training day for rheumatology registrars on osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease, and in 2025 she joined the faculty of an ultrasound workshop at Southend on giant cell arteritis, polymyalgia rheumatica and large-vessel vasculitis.
Research and publications
Her MSc dissertation studied calcinosis in systemic sclerosis, and she is a co-author of a 2021 British Society for Rheumatology abstract on the same research. She has presented case reports and studies at national meetings, with nine abstracts published between 2015 and 2021 in the Society's meeting supplements of Rheumatology and Rheumatology Advances in Practice, and has recruited patients to research studies.
Recognition and leadership
She won the prize for the best case presentation at the Lupus Academy's 2024 conference in Amsterdam. As a locum consultant at Barts Health she chaired the department's morbidity and mortality meetings and represented rheumatology at Barts Health's clinical governance meetings, and in 2025 she completed the Frontier Leadership Course for NHS consultants.
