Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about booking, appointments, fees and insurance
Booking and access
Do I need a GP referral?
If you are paying for yourself, you can usually book directly and a referral is not always needed. If you are using private medical insurance, most insurers ask for a GP referral and a pre-authorisation number before your visit; our insurance guide explains the steps.
How quickly can I be seen?
Next-working-day appointments can almost always be arranged, and same-day appointments are sometimes possible. Urgent referrals are prioritised, so please tell the team if your problem is urgent.
Can I have a video or telephone appointment?
New assessments are best face-to-face, so that examination and point-of-care ultrasound can happen in the same visit. Video and telephone consultations work well for follow-ups and for discussing results, and are offered where appropriate.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or rearrange. Cancellations with 24 to 48 hours' notice incur 50% of the appointment fee; less than 24 hours' notice, or a missed appointment, incurs the full fee. Cancellation fees are not usually reimbursable by insurers. If an emergency prevents you attending, contact the practice as early as you can and we will take genuine circumstances into account.
Can I have my consultation in Russian or Ukrainian?
Yes. Dr Borukhson is a native Russian and Ukrainian speaker and is happy to consult in either language, as well as in English, so you can discuss your care in whichever language you are most comfortable with.
Your appointment
Will I be scanned at my first appointment?
Where it is clinically helpful, Dr Borukhson performs point-of-care ultrasound during the consultation itself, so the scan informs the assessment on the day rather than being arranged separately. Read more about the one-stop ultrasound clinic.
Can I have an injection on the same day?
Often, yes. Where an ultrasound-guided injection is clinically appropriate, it can usually be carried out within the same visit, after it has been discussed and agreed with you.
What should I bring?
Any referral letter, a list of your current medications, and copies of recent test results or imaging reports if you have them. Our guide to your first appointment covers this in more detail.
Where do clinics take place?
Dr Borukhson sees private patients at three London hospitals: The Thames View at Charing Cross Hospital, The Sainsbury Wing at Hammersmith Hospital, and The Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital. See locations for directions.
How do I get a repeat prescription between appointments?
If you are under Dr Borukhson's active care and have been reviewed within the last six months, email prescriptions@rcl.london with your name, date of birth and the medication you need. Requests are usually completed within 2 to 3 working days and carry a £25 administration fee, so please ask at least a week before you run out. That said, if you ever need one more quickly, please contact the practice, as a same-day prescription can usually be arranged.
Fees and insurance
How much does a consultation cost?
New appointments are from £280 and follow-ups from £200. The fee covers the consultation itself; ultrasound, diagnostic tests and any procedure performed are charged in addition and are always discussed and agreed with you first. See the fees page for details.
Is Dr Borukhson recognised by my insurer?
Dr Borukhson is fee assured with every insurer she works with, which means her consultation fees are covered in full with no shortfall for you. Check the fees and insurance page for the list of recognised insurers, and obtain pre-authorisation from your insurer before your visit; that is your responsibility as the policyholder.
I am sponsored by an embassy. What do you need?
Please arrange for a Letter of Guarantee covering Dr Borukhson's professional fees to reach the practice before your first appointment. If one is not in place, we ask you to pay on the day and reclaim the cost from your sponsor; we will provide the receipted invoice and paperwork you need. Hospital charges are arranged separately with the hospital's international office.
Will my GP be kept informed?
Yes. With your agreement, a clear clinic letter is sent to your GP in line with GMC guidance, so your wider care stays joined up.
